Practical Uses of the Force

I've been carrying these techniques around in my head for years, mostly because other sites didn't allow them.  I wrote the following for those who wish to know how to actually make use of the Force, not in some sort of mystical way, but in practical ways.  If you ever wondered what the Force actually feels like, here's your chance.

Energy is everywhere. It is all around you. Even now in the very room in which you are sitting. You can call it the Force, Chi, Tao, or whatever. The name is not important. All matter is energy. Even the air you breathe is full of energy, and so accessing it is simpler than you might think.

Heat transfer

This may or may not be considered a "Force" manipulation, but it is none the less a transfer of energy. It is most useful when you are either really hot or really cold. The idea is simple. If, for example, you are cold, run your hands under hot water and visually move that heat into the rest of your body. Feel it running up your arms and roll your shoulders to move it down your back, your chest, and eventually your legs.

The opposite transfer would be moving heat out of your body when you're hot. Run your hands under cold water and visualize heat being pulled out of your body and flowing into the cold water.

Caffeine

I call this method such because I occasionally use it when I'm feeling tired and need a brief boost of energy to get me moving. To do this you need to mentally reach out to the Force around you and imagine it flowing it into you. Better yet is to imagine that a dam is built holding back the energy and you happen to be sitting in front of it, and that dam is suddenly breaking, suddenly pouring energy into your body.

Calming

This is basically the opposite of gaining energy like the last method. If you are feeling stressed or anxious, for example, you can let the energy fall and flow out of you, like your body is a dam breaking. Or, imagine energy being pulled out of you like a spool of string.

Dizziness

I sometimes suffer from motion sickness or light-headedness, so I developed this method to deal with it. Should you experience either of these symptoms, focus your energy down through you in the Earth and eventually to its core. People have called this a "grounding" method. The point is, when you are able to anchor yourself to something as steady and solid as the core of the planet, dizziness is often relieved. Picture energy being pulled in by the gravity of the Earth. You may feel heavier than usual.

Balance

This method is the oldest one I have. I developed it after watching the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". There was a lot of flying around in that movie, seemingly through some sort of energy manipulation, so I asked myself if such a thing could be achieved through use of the Force.

I started with a breathing technique. I inhaled through my nose, imagining only light entering my body. I exhaled through my mouth, imagining darkness emptying out of me. Once my body was full of light, I focused it at the base of my spine. I then pushed that energy up through me up to the top of my head and out through it. When I first did this I felt a sensation of elation, almost like a high. I wouldn't recommend holding this mentality for very long as it can cause light-headedness, in which case I would recommend the technique listed above for grounding.

It was not until years later that I began to apply this physically. I had already been practicing martial arts for many years, and I began to apply this energy manipulation to achieve physical balance. To do this, I recommend standing on one foot, holding your arms out to your sides, your hands palms up, and feel the Force flow up through you, holding you up like a helium balloon with a string attached to the floor. With practice it can hold you up in ways that would normally not be possible.
